Privacy and Terms for the Tori Japanese practice app.
Last updated: May 26, 2026
By creating an account or using Tori, you agree to these terms. If you don’t, don’t use the app.
You must be at least 13 years old (or the older minimum age set by your country’s online-services laws) to use Tori. The signup flow includes an age confirmation step.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Tori on devices you own or control, for the purpose of practicing Japanese.
You own the practice content you create in Tori (sentences, journal entries, vocab notes, etc.). By using the app you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to store, transmit, and process that content as needed to operate the service — including, when you select the cloud backend, sending audio and text to the inference providers listed in the Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for the content you create. Don’t paste in anything you don’t have the right to use.
Tori is a language-practice app. The scenarios (restaurant, doctor, pharmacy, lawyer, hotel, etc.) are designed to give you natural Japanese to practice with — they are NOT medical advice, legal advice, travel advice, or any other kind of professional advice. Don’t make real-world decisions based on what the AI says in a practice conversation.
The AI can also produce inaccurate translations, especially for complex grammar or niche vocabulary. Verify anything you intend to use in a real conversation against a dictionary or a native speaker.
Don’t:
Tori may offer paid subscriptions or in-app purchases in a future release. When those land, they will be processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store under their respective billing terms.
You can stop using Tori at any time and delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account.
We can suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, abuse the service, or if we are required to do so by law.
Tori is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the AI’s responses will be accurate.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from your use of (or inability to use) Tori.
In any case, our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the app is limited to USD $50 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, whichever is greater.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws provisions. Any dispute that isn’t resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Utah.
We may update these terms from time to time. When the update is material, we will notify you in the app on next launch. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Continuing to use the app after a material update means you accept the new terms.
